Hand Drawn Animators Included in Layoffs at The Walt Disney Company

During the past couple of weeks reports began surfacing about impending staff cuts at The Walt Disney Company, and by the end of the week the cuts became official as nine veteran animators from the hand drawn animation team were let go.

Tom Bancroft, a former Disney animator, tweeted out the names of the animators from his personal account on April 11. Several online sites also listed the names. The veteran hand drawn artists who lost their jobs are: Nik Ranieri, Ruben Aquino, Frans Vischer, Russ Edmonds, Brian Ferguson, Jamie Lopez and Dan Tanaka.

Marvel Characters Coming To A Park Near You?

Spiderman and Captain America alongside Mickey and Minnie at Magic Kingdom? Though it might sound a little farfetched, it looks like Disney has some plans in the works to incorporate Marvel comic characters into its theme parks.

Rumors on the subject have been around since Disney acquired Marvel in 2009, and to date, the only such Marvel characters to be found in the parks are on merchandise. According to President and CEO Bob Iger at Disney's annual shareholders meeting last Tuesday, Disney is working on some ideas to bring the characters into the parks and attractions.

Animal Kingdom Will Be Home For Future AVATAR Project

At a press conference yesterday, Bob Iger and Tom Staggs announced that Disney and the folks that brought you AVATAR have formed a "long-term creative partnership" that will include bringing the movie's fantasy world to Disney's Animal Kingdom.

The 19th annual "A Night at Sardi's" event was held recently in Los Angeles with Disney CEO Bob Iger as the evening's honoree. Raising more than $1.6 million for the Alzheimer's Association, the event drew some 900 guests including some top names in entertainment.

Significant Pay Raises for Disney Execs

Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger is living proof that it is a good thing to work for a mouse. According to Disney's proxy filings last Friday, Iger saw a 35% increase in salary and bonuses for 2010. As far as figures go, the CEO's salary jumped to $16.3 million from the previous year's $12 million. His total compensation? Factoring in equity awards, it was $28 million.

It was a day of magic for Disney Cruise Line's long-awaited newest ship. January 19 saw the Disney Dream christened in a lavish and grand ceremony which featured celebrities, top Disney executives and the Mouse himself.

Multi-talented actress and singer Jennifer Hudson was on hand as the Dream's godmother. A very fitting choice was Ms. Hudson as her Oscar- and Grammy-winning career started in 2003 aboard the Dream's sister ship, the Wonder.

Bob Iger to Remain Chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company Through June 30, 2018

The Walt Disney Company Board of Directors has extended the contract of Chairman and CEO Bob Iger through June 30, 2018.

Iger has been at the helm of The Walt Disney Company since 2005.

Under Iger's leadership Disney has acquired Pixar, Lucasfilm, and Marvel. The company has also seen an expansion of its parks and resorts around the world, including the opening next year of Shanghai Disneyland.

Walt Disney Company Raises Annual Dividend by 15 Percent

The Walt Disney Company announced that it is raising its annual dividend by 15 percent to 86 cents from 75 cents.

This boost comes after the company's third consecutive year of record net income, earnings per share, and revenue.

The dividend is payable on January 16, 2014 to shareholders of record on December 16. It is the 58th consecutive dividend payment to shareholders according to the company.

Bob Iger Remains Disney’s CEO and Chairman through June 2016

Bob Iger will continue to helm The Walt Disney Company through June 2016 as Chairman and CEO. This is a change from his original contract which called for him to retire as CEO in April 2015 and transition to the role of executive chairman.

Iger has been CEO of the company since September 30, 2005, and during his tenure has overseen the acquisition of Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm, in addition to theme park and resort renovations. In 2012, Iger was paid nearly $40.2 million.
