3D Or Not 3D...That Is The Question..

Good Morning Folks..I remember when our local inn got this huge 3D Plasma TV fitted years ago,and the first soccer game had about 40 people in to watch it wearing those huge black glasses..It looked like a Roy Orbison convention..Now it's never used..Anyway to my question...What is your favourite 3D attraction at Disney and what attraction would you like to see in 3D...My favourite is a toss up between Mickeys Phillamagic and Toy Story Mania...And I would love to see " Soarin " going 3D..Over to you good people...

I'm not a huge fan of 3D in motion as it can often make me feel sick, I love TSM but lift the glasses between screens. I like it's though to be a bug but I think mickeys philharmagic is my fav

Mickeys Philharmonic tops my list as well. I try to watch and see when they move the curtains back but I get so caught up in the show that I forget! What about the Laugh Stop in 3D.....might be fun to see Roz go after Mike!

I like Mickey's Philharmagic a lot but I have a real liking for the Muppets and have to admit they are my favorite.

Toy story mania all the way for me. But it adds the feel element to. Balloons popping gets me every time.

Well, TSM is probably my favorite ride in general, but for use of 3D technology, I've got to go with Philharmagic. I love that the scents and textures are integrated with the visuals. That attraction totally spoiled me and the first time I went to a modern 3D movie, I was so disappointed!

As far as new 3D experiences, I think we're good for now. There's enough of the 3D technology in the parks to make it interesting and every park has something, but if they add too much more, I think it will be overkill. Most of us are already tied to some sort of screen 24/7. Part of what I love about the parks is that they are very immersive and they snap me out of the stare-at-the-screen mode that I get into from spending so much time in front of the computer.

OMG I totally agree with you when I went to see a 3D movie all my friends were amazed and all I could think was "this isn't as good as Phillarmagic!"

I think the parks have enough 3D attractions as is. I know not too long ago 3D TVs were everywhere but I think they've phased out in terms of popularity. It's a bit of waste I think considering that there are very few 3D channels and movies released to the general public. I don't know. I just feel 3D movies and TVs are overly commercialized and not really worth spending extra money for. Why spend close to 20 US dollars per movie ticket just to see it in 3D when you can see a regular screening at a cheaper price or even an early morning screening before noon where the tickets are even cheaper?

Anyway, I think Toy Story Mania is my favorite 3D attraction because it's not too uncommon to watch 3D films at the theme parks. 3D attraction rides, on a different note, stand out and are much more interactive and it's a ride you'll probably want to do multiple times.

My vote is split between the Muppets movie and It's tough to be a Bug. I really enjoy both of them and I can't choose.

As far as 3D attractions in general, I don't particularly care for most 3D. But to be fair, it's probably because I have to put anti-bacterial gel on each pair of glasses before I wear them, and that's a pretty unenjoyable, time consuming process. If they would start handing out disposable 3D glasses, I think I would enjoy it much more.

They wash the glasses between every use. We did the Undiscovered Future World tour and one of the stops was the 3-D glasses cleaning department where all 3-D glasses for the entire property are cleaned. It probably sounds crazy, but this was one of the most fascinating parts of the tour for me. It was a pretty impressive operation, but even with all of the technology they use to aid in completing the process, the glasses still have to be trayed by hand! I did the math and they must clean somewhere in the neighborhood of 150,000 pairs of 3-D glasses per day or nearly 55 million pairs per year. Seeing this commitment to making sure that each guest had a clean pair of glasses to wear made me feel much better about the water spots on the lenses. Maybe they just need some jet dry for their glasses cleaning machine.

Wow alicemouse, thanks for this info it makes me feel MUCH better awesome
The reason I use anti bacterial on the glasses is because I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, which is an autoimmune disease. Since I already have such a compromised immune system I tend to use a lot of anti bacterial when at WDW. But this bit of info really does make my day and it just confirms to me, yet again, how awesome Disney world is! clapping

I love Mickey's Philharmagic, The Muppets and It's Tough to be a Bug. And then there's Caption EO, well, that's 10 minutes I'll never get back.

I'm going with Toy Story Mania because, well, 3-D movies are no big deal anymore. There's always at least one at the local multiplex, and the 3-D effects in commercial movies are more realistic than what they've been using at WDW for years. The interactive element at TSM is what makes it special.

I hear ya! I had always wondered as I was putting on those glasses where they had been and what exactly happens to them when I put them in the designated bin after the ride/show. So it turns out that Disney came up with a solution to make us all a little bit safer germ-wise and still not throw 55 million pairs of 3D glasses in a landfill every year. Somehow I doubt that my local theater is doing as good a job with their discarded 3D glasses...

At Disney, we enjoy all the 3D attractions, with Toy Story Midway Mania being our favorite. Otherwise, we're not ones that usually go to 3D movies and such.

I have to go with the Muppets. I just love that one. I also like It's tough to be a bug. But I like real bugs so maybe I am just a little weird! laugh

Does anyone remember Honey I shrunk the Audience or was that only at Disneyland? I loved that 3D movie!!!! With the rides it would have to be Toy Story Mania or the new Star Tours.

Nope, that was where Captain EO is now next to Figment. Wish it would come back!

Yeup, these are my two, but DH also loves Philharmagic (it's the musician in us and he has a poster....)
I would like Soarin, but I am not sure with all the moving AND the 3D that it wouldn't both some people's tummy and I wouldn't want to be the second story under someone feeling the motion in action.

Mickey's Philharmagic & Muppet Vision 3D are my faves. The 10 - 30 minute 3D shows at Disney are fine but 3D movies do NOT agree with me. I come out of 3D movies with a headache, nauseous or both so I don't see 3D movies and would never buy a 3D tv.

There is one problem with 3D and I am sure that many of you don't share this problem. If you wear glasses and have prisms that help your eyes work together, the 3D is a real pain in the .....eyes. It's really hard to get your eyes to work together since the two lenses in the glasses are independent. I do enjoy the humor/laughter, but some is me trying to get the double lenses just to work. If I had to wear them AND be in motion (soarin) I am not sure I would be able to keep it all together long enough to see. Isn't Soarin already a form of 3D, just in need of upgrade?
