Grand Floridian DVC Details Preview

DVCNews.com has published some of the long awaited and much anticipated information for the new DVC Villas at the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa! Including six 4 BDR/4 Bath Grand Villas!

Room Floor Plans & Building Layout

Okay... it's a good thing that I wasn't taking a drink of coffee when I read these point estimates. I probably would have sprayed it all over the screen. OUCH! Studios are being estimated to start at 22 points per night. Comparing that to 16 at BLT makes it seem so crazy to me.

Kristen, you are absolutely right and thanks for the heads up. I was about to take a sip of my coffee, wow eek , that will be an expensive stay.

I'll probably do a one or two nights at some points just for the experience, but not a wise use of my points.

Thanks for the info.

I thought I had read that the 22 point was an average throughout the year? But even so, it's a high charge, though it would have to be really to be in keeping with the highest costing resort. I would love to stay there. Anyone have any idea when they might be finished?

Oh wow. I have mixed feelings. I still want to stay there, I think. =) Looks gorgeous though! I am sure that I want to stay there. I think. wink With the points that I have, I can't see this being a very wise use of them. Especially since I try to stay cheap on points to stretch them as far as they will go.

I feel the same way! I've had told my daughter Tori we might try and move over there for our February trip, but I'm just not sure if I'm going to want to spend the points. They look awful pretty to me and I love love love the Grand Floridian.

I am thinking here, DH has no desire to buy more points. Although, I do keep my eye on resales just to watch and dream. Maybe, if we can get a stay here, he might like it soooo much that he will want more points. OK, highly doubtful, it will never happen, but I have to have something to dream about. biggrin

They look lovely!

Sadly, we're broke right now, so no Grand Floridian points for me.

Our friends are going on a tour this Thursday, they already own BLT and AKV but I fully expect them to buy, especially as they are selling them at $145 per point and not the 200 they were expecting

HOLY MOLY! Have you seen the point charts?
http://www.dvcnews.com/index.php/resorts/grand-floridian/news/2281-grand-floridian-2013-and-2014-points-charts

I knew that it would be more points per night, but that's just crazy. I looked at switching my February 3 night 1 bedroom Villa from Animal Kingdom to Grand Floridian. We're currently paying 100 points at AKL, to switch to VGF is would cost us 156 points and that's for standard view. For 3 nights!! That's almost a full years worth of points for me. I think my heart just stopped.

I confess, one of the only ways I can make sense of the point charts in my head is to find a way to convert points into a dollar amount. I added up the number of points needed for one night in a standard view studio across each season and averaged them - 23.6 points a night. At $13.00 a point (the going rate on www.dvcrequest.com) - that's $306.80. Maybe not The Ritz or Four Seasons expensive but still pretty ouchie. Just out of curiosity I did the same calculations on BLT and BCV - the average worked out to 19.3 and 19.1 points per night respectively. Obviously, I have too much time on my hands today! Glasses I think it's clear that the Grand Floridian has been and probably always will be the flagship, high end, what-is-this-budget-you-speak-of resort.

Bottomline, without a pile of money and extremely good luck, I think the Grand Floridian is going to be out of reach for my family for a very long time.

Is it bad to want to tour the model rooms even though there is NO WAY we can afford to purchase VGF (or any DVC) at the moment? That's probably the closest we'll ever come to staying at the GF. laugh I'd do the tour but I'd have massive guilt for wasting the salespersons time.

I think that if I want to stay at VGF I'll probably rent points. A standard room at GF is roughly $500 a night, so when you look at the point rental the way you broke it down, it's not quite as bad. I stayed at GF for a conference in 2011 and from that experience I think $307 is absolutely worth it for the studio.
