Next month I'll be staying off property and renting a car for the first time in 20 years. Does anyone have any off property favorites they can share with me? Ideas for great places to eat, anything that I really must see?

I am a great fan of Golden Corral. If you want great pizza try Flippers Pizza in the strip mall directly across from the road from the hotel boulevard leading out of DTD. Also in that same mall is a great place called Sweet Tomatoes, you will have to look for it as it is hidden all the way around the corner at the far end of the mall. Another great high end place I is Texas de Brazil which is located across from the Festival Bay Mall, way up towards the end of "I" drive.
Another vote for the Golden Corral. There's a place 1/2 way up I-Drive called the Red Canyon bar & grill that's worth checking out too.
I can only please one person per day. Today isn't your day... tomorrow doesn't look good either.
Ed and I enjoyed the Outlet Mall. For us the off property musts were finding a Starbucks! we only went off property for a day. But we stopped twice.
Oooooh, Tony Roma's on I drive is always a must on our trip. I would also say an everglades boat trip of some sort. We really enjoyed ours last year - we did 'spirit of the swamp', we booked for an hour and this year we will be going back and having a 2 hour trip this time

We love Golden Corral but we have one nearby, plus I get a little buffet-ed out while in WDW. Bull & Bear at the Waldorf is wonderful, but I wouldn't call it a "must do" because of the price. La Luce at the Bonnet Creek Hilton on the other hand is much more reasonably priced and VERY good.
If you've never been to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, its really fun! It was one of my favorite things to do when I lived down there on my off days since I love animals so much. and it's only about 1 1/2 hours away from Orlando, and its highway driving almost the entire time.
Honestly, I think you will like the tropical kitsch of I-Drive. It's a bit like the main drag of the Dells but....warm! We'll have to try Pei Wei while we're down there - it's the quick service version of P.F Chang's. Good stuff!
I just remembered...there's a restaurant (I believe its on I-drive) called Cafe Tu-Tu Tango. Its a tapas restaurant and the food is AMAZING!
If you have time, and you don't mind a little drive, consider checking out Blue Springs, Kristen. It's in DeLand, up the road a ways from the attractions, but it's beautiful, real Florida. When it's chilly, the manatees come in from the intracoastals and the ocean. Sometimes you can see oodles of them! Mall at Millenia is fun people watching, and has some awesome stores (though nothing you haven't seen before.) As for restaurants, we go to Chevy's often, the Mexican restaurant in Crossroads, across from the Downtown Disney Hotels. And of course, there are our lovely beaches, lighthouses, and intracoastals. Let me know if you'd like more info on that kind of thing. I know the Daytona Area the best. Celebration is fun to check out, too.
Don Pablos is the BEST mexican food!!! Its on International Drive =)

I do have fun driving up and down I-Drive, there is a lot of interesting stuff to see! We tried a restaurant called Miller's Ale House in Kissimmee that was really good!

That sounds really nice! I think Becks is looking into it for us. Celebration sounds fun too! In all my trips I've never been through there.
I hope you like it!

Glad I re-read this thread, I missed the part about Tony Roma's. They all closed down in Dallas, so I thought they were gone altogether, but it looks like they still have one in Florida.
I guess I'm a little late, but just for some input...we always love people watching at Old Town Kissimmee. It's a great place to grab a beer and walk around, watch the people, look in quirky shops and relax.
I've heard lots of good things about Old Town Kissimmee. We really need to check it out.
Olde Town is super cool, we used to go for the evening. The sky coaster is really fun, did it years ago, and have the video to prove it! I love the Irish store if it's still there, we haven't been there for a long time. It's just a cool place to kill a little time and do something different.

Celebration was kind of a let down. We stayed there a few mths ago, and it wasn't great. You should go to the outlet mall and Ripley's Believe it or Not. Ripley's is really interesting and makes for a fun few hrs!
