Would you recommend a split stay?

Who's done a split stay (i.e. staying in one resort for half your trip and another resort for the other half)? Would you recommend? Any pros/cons?

I haven't but would love to.

THe best advise I have heard - go from lower to higher. Do NOT go from a Deluxe to a Moderate etc.

We've done it once..and I agree with Caitie. We went from OKW to POR..major culture shock! I was ready to turn around and go back to OKW...even though we had stayed at POR previously and loved it...and we'll stay there again. We were just so spoiled by the lack of people and bus lines at OKW.

This is key. We always have the problem that for the last half of our trip we're dreading leaving. If you change resorts it's like your trip's just starting. Plus if you upgrade hotels you have that to look forward to.

We did pop for 4 days and Akl for 3. It was awesome. We went gung ho in the begining of the week so we were more likely to spend time at AKL at the end of the week. they move everything for you, it's super easy.

That's a really good idea. Do the first half in a value while you're not in the room anyway. Then once you get tired, moved to the deluxe and relax in your room. I love that idea!

I love that they move everything! That would be my biggest reason for not wanting to move...so yes, this sounds like an awesome plan!

we've done a split stay with a villa in the first week and a hotel in the second, it was a good choice for us as we get the privacy of the villa to the business of the hotel on Idrive. Though if doing it again i would stay in the hotel for the first week and villa in the second as the villa was more relaxing Smile

Thanks, all! Agreed that you've got to go from lower to higher! Wink Never thought about a villa, Robyn. Have you stayed in a lot of different villa complexes?

One thing I just can't get past is having to wait a whole day for your room to open up. I don't like having a "place of my own" on that moving day.

I've done a split stay twice... the first time I started at Saratoga Springs for 4 days, then went to the Yacht Club for 7 days... I didnt mind the change at all. In fact, I very much preferred Yacht Club to Saratoga. Everything was sooo far away at Saratoga, and I didnt really care too much about being THAT close to Downtown Disney. Being THAT close to Epcot (while at the Yacht Club) was much better.
The second time, I started at Beach Club for 3 days, then moved to Fort Wilderness for 7. Now, the interesting thing here was that everything was soooo far away at Fort Wilderness, but I didnt mind! it was AWESOME. Absolutely LOVED the cabin. It was a beautiful setting, and very quiet.. almost forgot I was at WDW where kids roam free. One thing I learned for next time though, I WILL get a golf cart.

But all in all, I didnt mind the split stay, but it could be that the resorts I split between were very different. regular hotel typed rooms vs apartment style... so maybe a good variety is key?

for me, it wasnt so bad.. I waited until checkout time at my 1st resort.. dropped the bags at the bell desk for them to deliver to my new resort, then I went and had a nice lunch in one of the parks and when I was done... just got on the bus to my new resort. By the time I got there, the room was ready AND my luggage was waiting for me!

We didn't even take our luggage up to the front desk. The night before they came to our room with luggage tags to put on our luggage when it was moved to our new resort. We left Pop and headed for the parks at dinner time we hit AKL and everything was in our room, all we had to do was get our key cards recoded.

well that is even easier!! no one told me they'd do THAT! when I asked they said to bring it to the bell desk... hmmmmm

Hi,

Reading the posts above made me think that I goofed on my split stay in December, 2007. I went on the Disney Wonder for the four-night, five-day Bahamas cruise December 2-6, 2007; stayed at All Star Movies December 6-11, 2007; and stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge December 11-16, 2007. But I moved myself, not knowing that Disney will do everything for me; packing my suitcase December 10, 2007 and checking out the next morning, I brought it on the buses headed first to Animal Kingdom Park and then to Animal Kingdom Lodge. Tired

We moved our stuff ourselves, but we had a car so it wasn't so bad. We also thought we might need access to some of our stuff so it was easier to take along. It was definitely tempting to just let them handle it all though.
