I do the HDR photos simply because they appeal to the artist in me but allot of them dont get touched anymore unless I am trying to change the mood of a photo.

I have a love hate relationship with HDR photography. On one hand I've seen some lovely images that just would not have ever happened without it. When used well it can really enhance the natural beauty of a shot. I think your picture of the ship is a great example of that. On the other I think that when HDR photos are posted without a note saying that they're HDR or have been edited, it gives basic point and shoot photographers and unrealistic expectation of what a picture "should" look like. I also think that sometimes HDR can be taken too far an look very cartoony, and that doesn't appeal to me.

The blue sky above the Poly just looks so unreal and bright. That's a cool effect in that pic.

That's real, untouched.

I often take this path at work when I walk for lunch between my building and the cafeteria. It's quiet, it's tranquil, and it allows me to think. Smile

You are completely right. Now I'm searching for the right words.

I guess what I meant to say was that all the editing and layering makes it hard for someone who just wants to take a picture and have it look like that. Joe average can't grab their camera snap the picture and have the same color and crispness. However Joe Average also doesn't know that images are manipulated in that way. Unless you do the research and find out about techniques and "how to" you can't just snap a picture that looks like one that's been enhanced with HDR technique. I have an "HDR" function on my point and shot, and it also doesn't really so the same thing as something that's been carefully hand edited. When you look at an HDR picture you're also looking at a second layer of art. The primary artistry goes into taking the right picture, but then editing that adds "more" that people don't always realize has been added.

I feel that It creates a false expectation of beauty, sorta like air brushing and thinning out a model does.

actually HDR brings out every detail so its the opposite of airbrushing over defects. you dont have to know how to paint to appreciate a beautiful painting and when you pick up a brush for the first time you cant expect to paint a masterpiece. (yes I paint too) theres always someone out there thats better than you at something you can be upset about it or try to learn from them awesome

Opposite side of the country. That was in Portland, Oregon.

Love the picture of the Blue Angels. I'm quite partial to the Navy....my brother spent 22 yrs and retired to Pensacola his last station. My SIL still works for the Department of the Navy at the Pensacola Naval Hospital. It's in the blood.

That picture was taken at the NOLA French Market Cafe' and I think that of all the beignets that I've eaten, they were probably the worst! They are much lighter and fluffier at POFQ. We also hit the Cafe Du Monde near the airport on that trip and they Beignets there were much better. I think that they pump so many people through French Market at such a high rate of speed that they have really lost the quality of the product there.

Here's my Disney version of that picture:
