    We reported earlier this week about the iconic Characters in Flight balloon experience in Downtown Disney being grounded after a mishap with a similar balloon in Hong Kong. It now looks like there could be a significant wait before the experience is back up and running.

    Ever wanted to get the scoop on a Walt Disney World park from an insider's view? Recently, a cast member from the Magic Kingdom answered questions online during a "I Am A . . ." discussion at Reddit.com. The cast member states he/she works at the Magic Kingdom's main entrance turnstiles and also in "parade audience control;" in the past, the cast member has worked in merchanidse and at Toy Story Mania at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

  • HGTV Personalities for Food & Wine Fest Announced

    HGTV stars and personalities will be lending their expertise during this fall's International Food and Wine Festival at Epcot. Starting September 28, guests can catch sessions with the stars of HGTV about gardening, food and home entertaining Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays during the fest.

    Kicking off the lineup on September 28 will be the winner of this season's "Design Star." Here's the complete list of personalities and dates:

  • California Grill Slated To Close For Renovations

    A super popular spot for firework watching will be getting a makeover after the holidays. The California Grill is set to close in early 2013 for what's being called an "extensive renovation."

    While there are not a whole lot of details at this time as to what exactly will change with the Contemporary Resort-based restaurant, guests can expect a brand new look for the Grill and some changes to the menu. Chef Brian Piasecki looks to be "excited" about the upcoming changes and "enhancements to the interactive kitchen." He also says:

  • World Showcase To Receive Updated Costumes

    In what looks to be an effort to update Epcot's World Showcase, Disney Imagineers are hard at work designing new costumes for cast members at the pavilions.

    It's reported guest feedback has indicated the Showcase is "somewhat dated" with the costumes being one of the "biggest issues." In order to remedy this and present a more current version of the world, Disney Imagineering is designing brand new outfits for the World Showcase.

  • Downtown Disney Balloon Grounded After Hong Kong Accident

    A familiar sight is missing from the skies above Downtown Disney. The Characters in Flight balloon currently is not operating after an incident with a similar balloon in another park across the ocean.

    Late last week, a balloon in a park based in Hong Kong plummeted 60 yards to the ground due to a leak. It's reported five people sustained injuries, though none were serious.

  • Animal Kingdom Welcomes Baby Okapi

    The okapi population at Disney's Animal Kingdom just got a little bigger with the addition of a new calf late last month. The newest okapi, a female named Nafuna, was born June 21.

    Here are some fun stats about Nafuna's birth:

    • Her name is African and means "delivered feet first."
    • Nafuna weighed 35 pounds at birth.
    • The proud parents are first-time mom Zawadi and father Akili.
  • Independence Day Offerings at Walt Disney World

    It wouldn't be Independence Day without fireworks, and Disney's certainly got those covered this year. For those of you lucky enough to be in and around Walt Disney World on the 4th of July, here's a look at what Mickey and company are planning to help celebrate.

    Magic Kingdom will be showing its "Disney's Celebrate America! A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky" twice: July 3 and 4. This patriotic take on fireworks will light the up the night both dates at 9 p.m.

  • New Music, Food at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon

    Disney's water parks are a great way to beat the Florida summer heat, and this summer Disney's Typhoon Lagoon has added some new beats and eats to its fun.

    First off, guests can catch the Calypso band Tropicals (pictured to the right) at the park from 11:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through July 15. Look for the band near the Crush 'n' Gusher water coaster pool area.

    Disney Donates Vacation to Bullied Grandmother

    News and video of her being fiercely taunted on a bus by seventh grade boys has been circulating among news and computers nationwide, and now Karen Klein has been given a Disney vacation.

    Disney spokesperson Suzi Brown confirmed late last week that Disney is donating a vacation for four to Mrs. Klein. She'll be able to choose from a trip to Disneyland or Walt Disney World, or a Disney cruise. It's also been reported Southwest airlines will fly the grandmother and her traveling companions for free.
