    Christmas-Themed Legal Battle for Disney

Earlier this week, Disney was sued by two men for copyright infringement over a Christmas movie.

The men, who hail from Missouri and Tennessee, claim they wrote then pitched to Disney a story called "Santa Paws" in 1991. At the time, their idea went nowhere. However, since then, Disney has released two movies with similar themes and elements, according to the men.

Parts of "Very Merry" Comes To Magic Kingdom Now Through New Year's

Looks like Walt Disney World is incoporating some elements from the after-hours, special-ticket-required Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party into its daytime Magic Kingdom schedule now through New Year's. Guests braving the crowds at the Magic Kingdom this year can now catch Mickey's Once Upon a Christmastime Parade and "Holiday Wishes," a nighttime fireworks display.

Disney Movie Songs One Step Closer to Original Song Oscar

Yesterday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced a list of 39 songs that have the potential for bringing home the Oscar for Best Original Song at the 84th Annual Academy Awards. Songs from Disney movies accounted for almost 25% of that list.

The nine songs that could make the final nomination list include:

    • "The World I Knew" from Disneynature's African Cats
    • "Collision of Worlds" Disney/Pixar's Cars
    • "Hello Hello" and "Love Builds a Garden" from Touchstone Pictures' Gnomeo & Juliet

    Spotlight on a Disney Santa

Luther Hunter, a seventy-one-year-old hailing from Gastonia, North Carolina, will spend this Christmas playing Santa in Walt Disney World - just as he has for the past two decades. This year marks Hunter's twenty-first appearance as Santa at the happiest place on earth.

Hunter got the job as the jolly man in red at Disney after meeting a casting director in a toy store in which he was playing Santa. He told the director it had been his dream to be St. Nick at Disney World and was later hired for that very job.

New Buffet Trialed at Disney's Coronado Springs

Guests going to grab a bite to eat at the Pepper Market, an eating destination in Disney's Coronado Springs Resort, may have noticed a change recently. A new buffet concept has been rolled out and trialed with guests there in place of the Market's food court.

While the Pepper Market looks much the same, the change comes in that guests will pay a set price for an all-you-care-to-eat buffet filled with many food dishes instead of paying for different items at different stations.

    Construction Begins on Four Seasons

Back in September, we brought you news that construction on the Four Seasons Orlando Hotel would begin in December. Looks like that bit of news has panned out as ground was broke this week to start the construction of the luxury hotel near Walt Disney World.

Mickey Mouse and Meg Crofton, President of Walt Disney Parks and Resort Operations, were both on hand last week for the official breaking of ground on the hotel project.

New DVC Unit Coming In 2013

Back in March, we brought you news about an upcoming addition to Disney's Grand Floridian Hotel and Spa. While there was speculation at the time that this upcoming addition might be a new set of time share units, we now know this to be true as Disney recently annouced it would be constructing a time share addition to the Grand Floridian.

Disney VoluntEARS Donate Record Number of Toys

The Disney VoluntEARS have been hard at work collecting toys at WDW's toy drive and recently made a record-setting donation to U.S. Marine Corps Reserve's Central Florida Toys for Tots. Some 30,000 toys, gathered during this year's Toys for Tots toy drive, were delivered by cast members and Mickey himself recently.

Staff at the organization's headquarters say this is the largest donation of toys to date and will go to help some 20,000 children in the Florida counties of Seminole and Orange have a brighter holiday season.
