• Disney Exec: Rising Gas Prices Won't Derail Economic Recovery

    Filling up at the pumps certainly costs more these days and might even leave some consumers with a serious case of sticker shock. This past week, a top Disney executive said he doesn't expect the price of gas to adversely affect the number of theme park visitors.

    A quote about rising gas prices from Chief Financial Officer for Disney, Joe Rasulo, from a conference earlier this week: "Historically, we have not seen that, in and of itself " separate from a downturn it might cause. In and of itself, oil prices have not dampened visitation or interest in visitation to our theme parks."

    As most are aware, an 8.9-magnitude earthquake occurred near Japan's coast on Friday. The Disney Parks Blog gave an update yesterday regarding Tokyo Disney Resort, the Disney Wonder and the under-construction Hawaiian resort of Aulani in the wake of the event.

    First Time in Spanish for 'The Lion King'

    It's been translated into several languages since its debut in 1997, but never Spanish. For the wildly popular and successful show "The Lion King," that will change this coming October as the show is set to open in Madrid, Spain.

    Not only will this production of "The Lion King" be the first to be done in Spanish, it will also be the largest stage musical ever to hit Spain. The Madrid production, which opens October 21, will be one of seven currently playing to audiences around the globe.

    One big thing to come out of the partnership between Disney and HP was unveiled this past Thursday: the "newly re-imagined" HP Field House. In true Disney form, a sports star studded grand opening ceremony was held to reveal the facility and its state of the art sports technology.

    On hand at the ceremony were Mia Hamm, of soccer fame, and the NFL's Jason Witten. They joined ESPN radio personalities Mike Greenburg and Mike Golic as well as Mickey, Goofy and execs from both Disney and HP.

  • Randy Newman Takes Home Fifth Grammy

    It was Randy Newman's fourteenth nomination and fifth win as he took home a Grammy Sunday night for "Toy Story 3." The well-known composer and singer won in the Best Score Soundtrack Album category.

    Newman also had a nomination in the Best Song Written for a Motion Picture Category with "Down in New Orleans" from "The Princess and the Frog." "The Weary Kind" from "Crazy Heart" won in that category.

    Up next for Newman is the Academy Awards. A twenty-time nominee, he has a nod in the Best Song category for "We Belong Together" from "Toy Story 3."
