Pirates of the Caribbean Closing for Refurbishment on May 11

If you're headed to the Magic Kingdom this summer there is one less FastPass+ you'll need. Pirates of the Caribbean is closing down May 11 for a several-months-long refurbishment and won't be open again until sometime in September.

Ship Used in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Series Sinks in the Caribbean

Call it the real curse of the Black Pearl.

A ship used in Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean film series recently sunk off the coast of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The ship, The Brig Unicorn, was sailing to St. Lucia for repairs and "encountered difficulties" and then sank. There were nine crew members and a captain on board at the time, but no one was hurt in the accident. All crew members were rescued by the St. Vincent Coast Guard.

Pirates of the Caribbean Celebrates its 40th Anniversary at the Magic Kingdom

Pirates of the Caribbean celebrated its 40th anniversary at the Magic Kingdom on December 15.

The original Pirates of the Caribbean opened in Disneyland in 1967, taking guests back in time to a pirate-filled Caribbean complete with cannons, swordfights, and songs. The Magic Kingdom's Pirates attraction opened in 1973 and was one of the park's first major additions after its 1971 opening.

Disney Announces Closure of ‘Toontown’ and Other Virtual World Online Games

With the highly-anticipated release of the new Disney Infinity it seems that perhaps there isn't room for a few older online games as the Walt Disney Company has announced that it is closing down the decade-old Toontown Online video game.

The game will shut down September 19, along with the Pirates of the Caribbean Online and Disney Fairies Pixie Hollow. The company said that it is shifting development focus toward other online and mobile play experiences including Club Penguin.

Florida Author Sues Disney over ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Films

Florida-based author Royce Matthew has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against The Walt Disney Company alleging that his work was taken and used in the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise.

This is not the first time Matthew has sued Disney.
